Singles Day, known as Guang Gun, was first observed by university students in the 1990s, who chose the date because of its four lonely figures, 11/11. The annual event is now a multimillion-dollar industry.
Over the past five years, the number of one-person households in China rose by 29 percent.

Jones has never fired a coach midseason
It marked the first time that Jones, who has never fired a coach midseason, did not assure the media that Phillips would remain Dallas' coach for the rest of the season. The 1-7 Cowboys have lost five consecutive games.
"There are a lot of people here who are certainly going to suffer and suffer consequences," Jones said. "I'm talking about within the team -- players, coaches who have got careers. This is certainly a setback. I know firsthand what it is to have high expectations. I think unquestionably that our expectations were thinking we're something we were not, possibly looking at what might be relative to a Super Bowl. All of those things have certainly contributed early.
"But we have so many things that we need to correct and address, as this game so vividly exposed and previous games have. I've got a lot of work to do, got a lot of decisions to make. And it's not just one, two, three or four. There are several decisions. I think everybody in this country would agree that there's a lot wrong with this team that we've got to address, and I'm certainly the one to address it."

Phil Jackson owe Kobe Bryant an apology?
Bryant had 30 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds in the Lakers' 112-100 victory over Sacramento at Arco Arena.It was his 17th career triple-double, and it wasn't the end of his stat line. He was nine of 10 from the free-throw line and committed only one turnover. The one minor critique would have been his accuracy — nine-for-22 shooting — but it was almost nitpicking compared to the rest of his work.
Bryant also set a franchise record two minutes into the game, passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for career minutes. Bryant has now logged 37,527 minutes, all with the Lakers, of course.Jackson said Bryant could still be moving better defensively, but he conceded he "had a terrific night."

Taylor Swiftcreate her own line of perfume products
Elizabeth Arden, makers of designer perfumes for fashion line Juicy Couture and celebrities such as Britney Spears and Elizabeth Taylor, said on Monday the first fragrance will be launched in late 2011.
Swift, 20, will be personally involved in all aspects of product development, packaging and advertising. There is no name as yet for the new line.
The announcement comes a week after the Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Swift released her third album "Speak Now" to good reviews. Her previous album "Fearless" propelled a 10-month tour and was the biggest selling album of 2009.
"I have always loved how fragrance can shape a memory, the way certain scents remind you of events and people that are imprinted in your thoughts," Swift said in a statement.
Elizabeth Arden executive vice president Ronald Rolleston called Swift a "role model who inspires her fan base every day."
